Privacy policy
Effective date: October 15, 2026
This policy covers watchtower.is ("the site"). Upper Deerfield Ventures LLC, a New Jersey limited liability company in the United States, runs the site. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean Upper Deerfield Ventures LLC.
Watchtower is not live yet. The site has a description of the planned product, a demo that uses made-up data, and a waitlist. The waitlist is the only place where you give us personal information. The rest of this policy explains what we do with it, what else is collected when you visit, and what you can do about it.
What we collect
When you join the waitlist
The waitlist form asks for:
- your work email address (required)
- your role, picked from a list (optional)
- the kinds of pages you would like to watch, as free text of up to 300 characters (optional)
When you submit the form, we also save the date and time you joined and the country you joined from. Cloudflare works out the country from your IP address. We don't save the IP address itself.
We store this in a Cloudflare Workers KV database in our own Cloudflare account. If you join with the same email twice, we keep only the first entry.
The form also has a hidden field that people can't see. It catches automated spam bots. If a bot fills it in, the form throws the entry away.
When you visit any page
Data is collected in three ways when you visit, whether or not you join the waitlist.
- Google Analytics 4. A script from Google records how the site is used. It records the pages you view, how long you stay, how far you scroll, how you use the demo, when you start using the waitlist form, links you click that lead to other sites, the site that referred you, your approximate location (city and country, worked out from your IP address), and your device type, browser, operating system, and screen size. When you join the waitlist, the site sends Google a "sign up" event. That event doesn't include your email address or anything else you typed. Google Analytics gives your browser a random identifier, stored in a cookie, so it can tell a returning visitor from a new one.
- Cloudflare Web Analytics. A second script, from Cloudflare, measures page load speed and counts page views. It records the page URL, the referring site, your browser and device type, your country, and timing measurements. It doesn't use cookies or any other storage on your device.
- Hosting. Cloudflare hosts the site. Like any web server, Cloudflare receives your IP address, browser user agent, the page you asked for, and the time of the request. Cloudflare uses this to deliver pages and to block attacks.
We don't use local storage, session storage, or any other browser storage on this site, apart from the Google Analytics cookies described below and, for visitors in the EU/EEA, the UK, and Switzerland, one local storage entry (udv_consent) that remembers your cookie choice. The demo runs in your browser and sends nothing to us.
Why we collect it
We use your waitlist entry to:
- email you when early access to Watchtower opens
- understand who is interested and what they want to monitor, so we build the right product first
We won't send you marketing for other products, and we won't add you to any other mailing list. Every email we send about Watchtower will include a way to stop further emails.
We use analytics to see which pages people read, where visitors come from, how many people join the waitlist, and whether the site loads fast. Cloudflare uses request data to serve the site and keep it secure.
We don't use any of this data to show you ads.
Cookies and how to opt out
The only cookies on this site come from Google Analytics.
| Cookie | Set by | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics | Stores a random ID that tells one visitor from another | 2 years |
_ga_8X85K8FJZM | Google Analytics | Keeps track of your current visit (session) | 2 years |
Cloudflare Web Analytics sets no cookies.
If you visit from the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the server works out your country from your connection when it sends the page (we don't store it) and shows you a cookie banner. Google Analytics then sets no cookies and collects no analytics data unless you choose Accept. Your choice is saved in your browser's local storage under udv_consent, and you can change it at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page. Visitors from other countries don't see a banner, and Google Analytics runs as described above.
You can stop Google Analytics from collecting data about you in any of these ways:
- Install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- Block or delete cookies for watchtower.is in your browser settings.
- Use a browser or extension that blocks tracking scripts. This also stops Cloudflare Web Analytics.
The site and the waitlist form work the same with all of these turned on.
No affiliate links
This site has no affiliate links and no advertising. We don't earn money when you click a link on it. When you follow a link off the site, your browser tells the other site only that you came from watchtower.is, not which page you were on.
Who else receives data
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. These companies process data for us:
| Company | What it does for us | Their privacy policy |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare, Inc. | Hosting, security, Cloudflare Web Analytics, and storage of the waitlist | cloudflare.com/privacypolicy |
| Google LLC | Google Analytics 4 | policies.google.com/privacy |
Google never receives your waitlist entry.
We have turned off Google signals, and our Google Analytics account is not linked to Google Ads or any other advertising product. Google explains how it uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
We don't yet use an email service to send waitlist emails. Before we send the first one, we will name the service in this table.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights or someone's safety. If we sell or transfer Watchtower, the waitlist and analytics data go with it, and this policy continues to apply to them.
Both Google and Cloudflare are based in the United States and process data there and in other countries. Cloudflare stores the waitlist on its global network, so copies may sit in data centers outside your country. Both companies take part in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
How long we keep it
- We keep your waitlist entry until you ask us to remove it, or until 12 months after Watchtower opens for early access, whichever comes first. If you become a Watchtower customer, the terms for your account will replace this.
- Google Analytics keeps event-level data, such as a single page view tied to a browser ID, for 2 months. It keeps data about each browser ID for up to 14 months, and that period starts again each time the same browser comes back. Totals in standard reports, such as page views per day, have no visitor IDs and may be kept longer.
- Cloudflare Web Analytics shows us totals only. Cloudflare keeps that data under its own retention rules.
- We don't keep our own server logs, and the waitlist code doesn't write your details to any log. We have not turned on any Cloudflare log export. Cloudflare keeps its operational logs under its own policy.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you
- give you a copy of it
- correct it
- delete it, including removing you from the waitlist
- stop using it, or use it only in limited ways
If you joined the waitlist, email us from the same address and we will act on your request. For analytics data, the only link to you is the random Google Analytics ID in your browser. We can't link that ID to you unless you send it to us. If you do, we can ask Google to delete the data tied to it.
If you live in California or another U.S. state with a privacy law, you have the right to know, delete, and correct your personal information, and the right to opt out of its sale or sharing. We don't sell or share personal information as those laws define it, so there is nothing to opt out of. We won't treat you differently for using any of these rights. You can use an authorized agent to make a request for you.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, these are the legal bases we rely on:
- For the waitlist, your consent, which you give by submitting the form. You can withdraw it at any time by asking us to remove you. Withdrawing doesn't affect what we did before.
- For analytics and security, our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used and keeping it secure. You can object to that use.
You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
To make a request, email us at the address under "Contact us". We'll reply within 30 days. We may ask for details to confirm the request is yours.
Children
Watchtower is a tool for businesses. The site is not meant for children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has joined the waitlist, contact us and we will delete the entry.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, so the waitlist form and everything else sent between your browser and the site is encrypted in transit. The waitlist is stored in our Cloudflare account, and only Upper Deerfield Ventures can access it. No system is perfectly secure, and we can't promise that data will never be exposed. If a breach affects your waitlist entry, we will tell you as the law requires.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version on this page and update the effective date at the top. Watchtower will need a fuller policy when it launches with accounts and billing, and we will publish it before launch. If a change affects how we use the waitlist data we already hold, we will email the people on the waitlist before the change takes effect.
